We are privileged to host the Goldner Quartet in their final year performing together. The Quartet has widespread recognition as Australia’s pre-eminent string quartet, and an ensemble amongst the best in the world. Their performances have been acclaimed throughout Australia, UK, Europe, USA, the Asia-Pacific and New Zealand. The quartet has maintained the same four members across its thirty years, building a deep intimacy with the quartet repertoire.
Their program offers two quartets that could be described as the very heartland of that repertoire. Beethoven’s Quartet No.8 in E minor comes from his Opus 59 “Razumovsky” Cycle. With their emotional depth and artistic demands, this series of quartets elevated the string quartet genre from amateur pastime to professional challenge. Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No.1 in D major Op.11 is universally loved for its folk melodies, the ‘accordion’ effect of its opening, and its poignant second movement.
This may be your last chance to bask in the glow of this accomplished ensemble and their exquisite musicianship.
